About

Providing authentic Islamic education and nurturing care for children in Northern Nigeria, with special focus on those orphaned and displaced by conflict.

Founded on Faith and Compassion

UK Jarma Academy is a unique beacon of hope in Sokoto, transforming the lives of vulnerable children, particularly orphans displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency. Founded in 2018 by the renowned philanthropist, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo (Jarman Sokoto), as a direct response to the urgent needs of children whose lives had been torn apart by insurgency and hardship.

Guided by a strong vision of compassion and service, the Academy stands as more than just a school—it is a safe haven where vulnerable youth, especially orphans and displaced children from Borno, Yobe, and Sokoto, can find hope, dignity, and purpose once again.

At its core, the Academy's mission is to educate, protect, and empower young lives, ensuring that they grow into self-reliant and morally upright citizens. Through a unique dual-curriculum model that blends conventional academics with profound Islamic knowledge and vocational training, UK Jarma Academy nurtures students spiritually, intellectually, and socially.

The school does not only aim to produce scholars but also well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to their families, communities, and wider society.

Beyond academics, the Academy embodies a philosophy of rebuilding futures. Every child welcomed through its gates carries a story of loss, displacement, or vulnerability. Here, those stories are transformed into journeys of growth, resilience, and achievement. UK Jarma Academy is therefore not merely an institution of learning—it is a sanctuary of compassion, a cradle of hope, and a testament to the power of education in healing broken lives and preparing tomorrow's leaders.

Meet Our Visionary Leader

Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo - Jarman Sokoto

Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo A.A. (Jarman Sokoto) is not just the founder of UK Jarma Academy—he is the heart and soul of this institution. Born on March 10, 1954, he holds the prestigious traditional title of Jarman Sokoto in the historic Sokoto Sultanate, a position that reflects his standing as a respected community leader and philanthropist.

A Man of Vision and Compassion

As Chairman of STCC Group of Companies, Alhaji Kwabo has achieved remarkable success in business. However, his greatest passion lies not in wealth accumulation but in serving Allah through caring for the less fortunate, particularly orphaned and displaced children.

His dedication to this cause has earned him the beloved community title "Uban Marayu" (Father of Orphans)—a name that captures the essence of his life's work.

The Birth of UK Jarma Academy

Moved by the devastating impact of the Boko Haram insurgency on children in Northern Nigeria, Alhaji Kwabo established UK Jarma Academy in 2018. His vision was clear: to create a place where orphaned and vulnerable children could receive authentic Islamic education, quality academic training, and vocational skills—all within a loving, family-like environment.

A Father's Heart

The founder's relationship with the students goes beyond that of a typical school proprietor. He considers these children his own family, personally overseeing their welfare and taking deep interest in their progress.

In his own words: "These children are not orphans to me—they are my children, my family, and my greatest responsibility. Their smiles are my joy, and their success is my pride."

The founder, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo (Jarman Sokoto), always expresses deep affection for the children. This genuine love and commitment is evident in every aspect of the Academy's operation—from the quality of meals served to the comfortable learning environment created, and the comprehensive support systems put in place.

A Legacy of Service

Through UK Jarma Academy, Alhaji Kwabo continues to embody the Islamic principle of caring for orphans as taught by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). His work stands as a living example of how faith, compassion, and resources can combine to transform lives and build hope for future generations.

Our Vision

To be a leading center of excellence in nurturing vulnerable and orphaned children into morally upright, self-reliant, and academically sound future leaders who embody both Islamic and conventional knowledge.

Our Mission

Our Objectives

Our Dual-Curriculum Model

Three Pillars of Excellence – Islamic knowledge, academic achievement, and practical skills

Pillar 1: Islamiyya Section - The Huffaz Acceleration Success Story

Our Pride and Foundation

The Islamiyya program represents the spiritual heart of UK Jarma Academy. Classes are held with dedication and focus:

Schedule:

  • Weekdays: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday (3:00 PM - 6:00 PM)
  • Weekends: Saturday & Sunday (9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)

What Students Master:

  • Tahfeez: Complete memorization of the Holy Qur'an
  • Tilawah: Beautiful recitation with proper Tajweed
  • Arabic Language: Classical and contemporary proficiency
  • Islamic Books: Deep study of classical Islamic texts

Unprecedented Success: During these dedicated times, children immerse themselves in memorizing the Qur'an (Tahfeez), reciting it beautifully (Tilawah), and learning Arabic and other Islamic books. This system helps them grow not only in knowledge but also in faith, character, and closeness to Allah.

Alhamdulillah, 53 pupils (boys and girls) have successfully memorized the entire Glorious Qur'an—with 30 Huffaz completing in 2024 alone. This remarkable achievement reflects our strong Islamic foundation and unwavering commitment to character building.

Pillar 2: Conventional Section - Laying the Academic Foundation

From Primary to Success

The Conventional Section of U.K. Jarma Academy began its journey in 2018 with the introduction of Primary One to Primary Five. From the very beginning, pupils were carefully screened to assess their academic background and determine the most suitable classes for them.

This thoughtful screening process ensured that each child was placed at the right level, creating a solid foundation for growth and learning. Over the years, the section has continued to provide quality education that combines discipline, knowledge, and character-building.

Current Structure:

  • Primary Classes (Pri 1-6): Building strong foundations
  • Senior Secondary Section: Science and Arts streams
  • Class Distribution:
    • Pri 1 & 2: 35.6%
    • Pri 2-4: 29.3%
    • Pri 5: 19%
    • Pri 6: 16.1%

Academic Schedule: Classes are held with a structured timetable that allows pupils to learn in a conducive and engaging environment. From Monday to Thursday, academic activities run from 7:30 am to 1:30 pm, while Fridays are slightly shorter, closing at 12:00 pm to accommodate other essential programs. This balanced schedule enables students to cover their curriculum effectively while also giving them time for personal development, Qur'anic studies, and extracurricular activities that complement classroom learning.

Preparing for the Future: As the school expanded, the Senior Secondary Section was introduced to accommodate students progressing into higher levels of learning. This section offers both Science and Arts classes, giving students the freedom to pursue their chosen academic pathways in line with their future aspirations.

With a strong commitment to academic excellence and moral upbringing, U.K. Jarma Academy continues to nurture well-rounded students who are prepared for higher education, leadership, and meaningful contributions to society.

First Graduation Triumph: The Pioneer Graduating Class of the Conventional Section at U.K. Jarma Academy recorded an impressive success rate, with over 80% of students excelling in their final examinations.

Out of the 24 students:

  • 17 students achieved 9 Credits in their NECO results
  • 3 students earned 8 Credits
  • 4 students obtained less than 7 Credits

Yet all passed the crucial subjects of Mathematics and English Language, ensuring eligibility for higher education opportunities.

This outstanding outcome demonstrates the Academy's strong commitment to academic excellence and its ability to prepare students effectively for both higher education and professional life. The performance further reflects the success of its dual curriculum model, where conventional education is reinforced by strong moral and spiritual grounding.

Pillar 3: Skills Acquisition & Entrepreneurship

"We Don't Just Teach Students What to Learn, We Teach Them How to Earn"

At UK Jarma Academy, education goes far beyond the classroom. Alongside Qur'an memorization and conventional studies, our students are actively trained in skills acquisition and entrepreneurship—equipping them with practical abilities to thrive in today's world.

For Our Female Students (Over 90%): The success is remarkable: over 90% are now experts in tailoring and fashion design, confidently producing high-quality outfits and accessories.

A good number have also taken a keen interest in computer training, building digital literacy that will open up countless opportunities for them in the future. This blend of traditional craft skills and modern technology makes our female students exceptionally versatile.

For Our Male Students: The spread is equally impressive:

  • 43% are actively engaged in tailoring, mastering the art of cutting, sewing, and design
  • 38% have embraced shoemaking, creating durable and stylish footwear that reflects both creativity and skill
  • The remaining group is immersed in computer training, ensuring they are not left behind in the digital era

Impact: This blend of fashion, craft, and technology makes UK Jarma Academy a hub of innovation where students graduate not just with certificates, but with skills that can sustain them and empower their communities.
